Communications watchdog approves changes to line-up of channels of TVB

The Communications Authority has approved Television Broadcasts Limited’s (TVB) application to launch the “Phoenix Hong Kong Channel” under Channel 85 starting next Monday (Apr 22).

Following the channel restructuring, “TVB Plus” will be replacing “J2” and “TVB Finance, Sports and Information Channel” under Channel 82.

The broadcasting giant will continue to provide five program channels under its domestic free television program service license and has committed to ensuring the broadcast contents will comply with the requirements stipulated in the Broadcasting Ordinance, its free TV license, and the CA’s codes of practices.

The watchdog has also approved TVB’s application for a temporary waiver from compliance with the subtitling requirement for “Phoenix Hong Kong Channel” for three months from April 22 to July 21, before full compliance with the relevant requirement.

Separately, the Hong Kong Jockey Club announced that all racing programs and Mark Six draws currently aired on Channel 85 will be broadcast on Channel 82 starting next Monday.

The telecast of the English pre-race program “Racing To Win” will continue to air on TVB Pearl (Channel 84), the Club added.

In addition, other existing paid or online channels to access racing programs and Mark Six draws remain unchanged.
