More than 10,000 civil servants quit last year

More than 10,000 civil servants resigned in the year 2022-2023, the Civil Service Bureau revealed, while the government department with the most vacancies was public service broadcaster Radio Television Hong Kong.

The bureau said on Friday that the number of departures in the civil service increased from over 8,500 people in the year 2018-2019 to over 10,100 people in the year 2022-2023.

Among them, nearly 1,000 people were under the age of 30, and nearly 3,000 people had less than 10 years of service.

The police force saw the highest number of resignations, with 1,180 people, but this was a decrease from the peak of 1,802 people in the year 2019-2020.

As of November last year, the police force had a vacancy rate of approximately 18 percent. The vacancy rate for Radio Television Hong Kong was nearly 24 percent – the highest among all government departments.
