Treasures from Sacred Hill Exhibition reopens Fri after renewal

The Treasures from the Sacred Hill Exhibition, curated by the Antiquities and Monuments Office (AMO), at Sung Wong Toi MTR station, will reopen on Friday after completing renewal.

Due to the discovery of archaeological artefacts during the construction of Sung Wong Toi Station, the MTR Corporation Limited (MTRCL) commissioned professional archaeologists to conduct archaeological excavations which further unearthed a large number of archaeological artefacts dating to the Song and Yuan dynasties.

The AMO has been collaborating with the MTRCL to display the archaeological findings in batches at the station since June 2021 to facilitate public understanding of the archaeological achievements.

This is the first renewal since its launch in June 2021.

In addition to renewing the exhibits of the existing section “Song-Yuan Archaeological Discoveries at Sung Wong Toi,” the renewed exhibition also features a new section “Sung Wong Toi and Maritime Trade.”.

On display, there will be a total of more than 500 archaeological findings unearthed during the construction of Sung Wong Toi Station, which will feature items such as Longquan-type celadons, Qingbai and pale celadon ware, etc. from the Song-Yuan period. Most of them are being displayed for the first time.

By scanning the QR codes attached to the display cabinets, visitors can learn about everyday life in Hong Kong during the Song dynasty.

The MTR Corporation also said that tens of thousands of passengers currently use Sung Wong Toi Station every day, and passengers can appreciate the unearthed cultural relics at close range at the station.

The corporation also expects that, in the early days of the new exhibition, there will be more visitors to the station, and the MTR will monitor the train operation and urged visitors at the scene to wait patiently.
