CLP to install lightning protection devices to withstand impact of extreme weather

The CLP Power said it would enhance the lightning and flooding protection of its power supply system in order to withstand the challenges posed by the inclement weather.

The electricity giant’s 400kV overhead power supply system was affected by the unstable weather in the early hours of Sunday, which comes just two weeks after a power outage affected parts of the Wong Tai Sin district.

CLP has apologized to affected citizens and is working to strengthen emergency repair manpower and arrange mobile generators for future power supply incidents.

The company noted that it would install lightning and flooding protection devices in the next two to three years to maintain high efficiency and quality in terms of reliability of power supply under adverse weather conditions.

CLP stressed that it would collaborate with the government and the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) to enhance the capability of the power supply system to withstand the impact of inclement weather.
