Over 170 teams and 4,000 competitors from 12 countries and regions are expected to participate in the Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races, which will take place from June 15 to 16 along Victoria Harbour.
The annual event is co-organized by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) and the Hong Kong China Dragon Boat Association (HKCDBA).
In addition to teams from the mainland and two SARs, international participants hail from Singapore, Japan, the United Arab Emirates and Thailand, setting a new high for the event’s scale and diversity.
A special race of the “People’s Republic of China 75th Anniversary Celebration Trophy” has also been added to the event.
The famous “Fancy Dress Competition” will return, inviting teams to showcase their creativity and team spirit through colorful costumes.
Arnold Chung Chi-lok, chairman of HKCDBA, was delighted to continue the longstanding collaboration with the HKTB to organize the dragon boat event as it is an integral part of the city’s cultural heritage. He said the Association is committed to preserving the traditions while promoting the sport both locally and globally.
To enhance the festive atmosphere, food stalls offering summer cooling refreshments and photo spots will be set up at the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade.
Additionally, the HKTB will stage spectacular drone and pyrotechnic displays over the harbor on June 10 and 15, incorporating elements of the Dragon Boat Festival.
