Police called over casual swim in Tsim Sha Tsui water

Firefighters were called after suspecting that a man had fallen into the sea at Tsim Sha Tsui on Thursday night, only it was revealed he had just gone for a swim.

At about 10 pm yesterday (May 16), the police received a report from a passer-by that a man had fallen into the sea from the Avenue of Stars opposite the Hong Kong Cultural Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui.

The police called in the marine police to assist in the search and rescue.

About 15 minutes later, the man returned to shore unharmed and left.

An investigation revealed that no one had fallen into the sea, and the team left after classifying the incident as a misunderstanding.

A female passer-by said that the perceived victim was a South Asian man, and two other men were walking with him at the time when he took off his shoes, and jumped into the sea for a swim.

He returned to the shore after a few minutes and even shouted “I came back” as he left the area.
