CUHK crowned Hong Kong’s best global university: U.S. News

The Chinese University of Hong Kong came on top in the Best Global Universities in Hong Kong, according to the latest U.S. News rankings.

CUHK reached a global score of 77.5. It also sat in fifth place in the Best Global Universities in Asia and was the 42nd in the Best Global Universities.

For subject rankings, CUHK ranked third in both education and education research; and gastroenterology and hepatology. It also ranked eighth in artificial intelligence and 12th in computer science.

The university rankings were calculated based on 13 indicators with respective weight percentages that measure the universities’ academic research performance and their global and regional reputations.

They included a school’s global and regional research reputation, totaling 25 percent, and the number of publications that were among the 10 percent most cited, which took up another one-eighth. Other indicators included books, conferences, total citations, international collaboration, etc.

As for the city’s oldest – the University of Hong Kong, it ranked second in the Best Global Universities in Hong Kong, sixth in Asia and 44th in the world, with a global score of 76.9.

The prestigious university was crowned in the subject of education and educational research. It also sat in second place in infectious diseases, fourth place in microbiology, 14th in arts and humanities, and 17th in immunology.

The list of Best Global Universities in Hong Kong was followed by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the City University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology, and the Hong Kong Baptist University for the third to sixth places.

PolyU ranked second in civil engineering, fifth in engineering and sixth in mechanical engineering; while CityU ranked ninth in condensed matter physics, materials science, and physical chemistry.

The Education University of Hong Kong and Lingnan University of Hong Kong were seventh and eighth respectively on the list.
