Cancer recovery patients crowned champions of Dragon Boat Fancy Dress Competition

The Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races were held in Tsim Sha Tsui on Sunday, with the famous “Fancy Dress Competition” also making a comeback, which saw patients who had recovered from breast cancer winning first place by dressing as clowns.

The 2-day event continued at the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade and featured a total of 35 events today, including the 18 Districts Trophy, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Championship, and the People’s Republic of China 75th Anniversary Celebration Trophy.

The Fancy Dress contest that many people look forward to is also held today.

The contestants wore strange costumes, including durian headdresses, clown or anime costumes, ancient hero costumes, etc.

One of the teams, which featured lawyers from Malaysia, came dressed as the popular Street Fighter character Chun Li.

The team said that they had often participated in various dragon boat races back in their home country and were planning to participate in a race in 2019, which was unfortunately canceled, and they saw this chance as a way to make up for their regrets.

The Fancy Dress Competition ended with the Dragons Abreast Hong Kong team, who wore clown costumes and won the championship.

The members of the champion team, which features patients recovering from breast cancer, said they were thrilled and surprised.

They hope to deliver happy and positive messages through the contest so that the public can live and cherish an extraordinary life.

Award presenter Anson Cheung Ho-yin, Vice President of the Hong Kong China Dragon Boat Association, emphasized the team’s strong unity and collaboration, embodying the true spirit of the competition.
