Verdict of primary election case involving 47 democrats to be delivered by end of May

A two-day hearing has been scheduled for May 30 and 31 for West Kowloon Court to hand down the verdict of the primary election case involving 47 democrats, 16 of which pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to commit subversion.

The 47 democrats allegedly participated in the 35+ primary election in 2020 with a goal of blocking the Legislative Council from passing the budget.

Sixteen of them pleaded not guilty; they are Cheng Tat-hung, Clarisse Yeung Suet-ying, Pang Cheuk-kei, Kalvin Ho Kai-ming, Lau Wai-chung, Wong Pik-wan, Sze Tak-loy, Ho Kwai-lam, Raymond Chan Chi-chuen, Chow Ka-shing, Lam Cheuk-ting, Leung Kwok-hung, Ricky Or Yiu-lam, Lee Yue-shun, Winnie Yu Wai-ming, and Gordon Ng Ching-hang.

The case is presided over by three national security judges Andrew Chan Hing-wai, Alex Lee Wan-tang, and Johnny Chan Jong-herng.

The trial, which started last February, lasted for 118 days and ended in December.

All 16 of them are currently remanded in custody.
