French GourMay Festival 2024 celebrates the exquisite tastes of Occitanie in southwestern France

Gourmands in Hong Kong and Macau are jubilant over the 15th edition of the French GourMay Food & Wine Festival to be held from 1 to 31 May 2024. It is the one and only major festival in the two Special Administrative Regions dedicated to gastronomy a la francaise.

Organised by the French Trade Commission – Business France, under the umbrella of French May Arts Festival, with the support of Hong Kong Tourism Board, French GourMay selects a region in France every year to highlight its wines and culinary delights. The star for this year is the south of France from Occitanie.

During the entire month of May, more than 150 partners, including restaurants, wine importers, food and wine retailers and learning centers, will join hands to celebrate French GourMay 2024 by creating dedicated wine-pairing menus, tastings, promotions and workshops.

This year, the Festival will continue to present its highly popular ‘French GourMay Market’ which marks its 10th edition this year. Supported by Chinachem Group, the free-admission event will be held from 2-5 May at Central Market, and from 7-10 June at NINA MALL in Tsuen Wan.

Located in southwestern France, Occitanie is flanked by two mountain ranges, the Pyrenees in the south, and the Massif Central in the north. Nestled between these two major geographic features is a plain with a large variety of landscapes, from the chalk plateaus of Quercy to the Mediterranean coasts of Gard. This land of contrasts is a mosaic of colors, cultures and histories that are naturally reflected in its gastronomic traditions.

Occitanie is the leading wine-producing region of France, accounting for one-third of national volumes. The variety of its climate and soil enable wines produced on this exceptional land delivers one of the broadest aromatic palettes there is. Vineyards in the region are spread over Languedoc, Roussillon, and part of the Rhone Valley.

In terms of its culinary delights, the classic Roquefort – dubbed ‘the king of cheeses’ is one of the most emblematic chesses of France. The region is also known for its production of foie gras and cassoulet, as well as for seafood and fruits.
