Tourism Board lights up Victoria Harbour with pyrotechnics to welcome Labor Day golden week and launches one-stop info website to assist tourists

Ahead of the mainland’s five-day May 1 golden week holiday, the Hong Kong Tourism Board has seized the opportunity to launch a wide range of promotional campaigns.

Apart from preparing a 10-minute pyrotechnic show over Victoria Harbour on Labor Day, the board has also launched a dedicated website to provide visitors and the public with one-stop information and stepped up promotions in the mainland.

The board expects the pyrotechnic show to enrich the experience of tourists and locals and stimulate local consumption.

It will begin at 8pm on Wednesday at Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade Gardens, with the pyrotechnics to be released from a barge 130 meters offshore.

Golden sparks will be a major part of the show, while giant “HK” characters and smiley faces will brighten the sky, together with the Symphony of Lights show.

Yau Tsim Mong district officer: Pyrotechnic show creates synergy with shopping festival

The board is linking up local consumer promotions with the golden week holiday, such as the Yau Tsim Mong Shopping Festival, to provide visitors and citizens with multiple surprises.

Anybody can browse the board’s dedicated website for special holiday offers, transportation arrangements and opening hours of attractions.

The shopping festival, jointly organized by Yau Tsim Mong district office and its district council, will be launched on Wednesday.

More than 110 brands – comprising nearly 2,200 shops, hotels, restaurants and malls in Tsim Sha Tsui, Tsim Sha Tsui East and Mong Kok – will offer discounts to shoppers.

Yau Tsim Mong district officer Edward Yu Kin-keung said the festival is held in conjunction with the pyrotechnic display, which will complement each other and is expected to stimulate local consumption.

Enrich your night with Sino Group’s free drinks

Three Sino Group malls – Tsim Sha Tsui Centre and Empire Centre in East Tsim Sha Tsui and Olympian City in Tai Kok Tsui – will join the festival.

A “Cheers Fiesta” will be held at Alfresco Lane at Tsim Sha Tsui Centre and Empire Centre on Wednesday night, and a total of 510 cups of free drinks will be given out to diners from 7pm to 9.30pm.

Bella Chhoa Peck-lim, director of asset management of Sino Group said: “The pyrotechnic show can enhance the festive atmosphere and [tourists’] travel experience, creating synergy with the promotions of our group and helping to boost foot traffic and business turnover.”

In addition, Olympian City, Tuen Mun Town Plaza and Citywalk in Tsuen Wan are launching promotions to tie in with golden week.

From Wednesday to Sunday, customers who have an HKID card or a valid travel document with the digits 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5, and who make any purchases using electronic payment, can join a lucky draw of 5,100 prizes including movie vouchers and cash coupons.

K11 MUSEA’s launch of e-vouchers totaling more thanHK$2,800

Another Tsim Sha Tsui East mall, K11 MUSEA, has more than 80 percent of merchants participating in the holiday promotion.

During golden week, travelers who have registered as KCLUB 11 members with valid non-Hong Kong travel documents, can redeem e-gift vouchers totaling more than HK$2,800.

The vouchers can be used in a wide range of shops such as food and beverage, fashion and jewelry.

Restaurants with a harbor view will also offer special packages that allow customers to enjoy the pyrotechnic display while having a feast.

Horace Lam, senior vice president and regional head of K11 Group, said he is looking forward to welcoming visitors, as well as the board’s pyrotechnic show, which will help boost foot traffic and business turnover of the mall.

To attract visitors, the board stepped up promotions in the mainland, including Xi’an and Qingdao – new Individual Visit Scheme destinations – and invited mainland media to gain travel experiences in Hong Kong.

The board also collaborated with mainland online travel agencies and payment platforms to promote travel packages during the holiday, while 16,000 coupons of HK$200 each were distributed to travel agencies and airlines.

A drone show presented by the board will debut on May 11, and it will highlight traditional festivals such as Buddha’s Birthday, Cheung Chau Bun Festival and Tam Kung Festival.

The board hopes the event will encourage visitors to extend their stay.
