The Hong Kong Tourism Board announced on Monday that they will hold a maritime fireworks show opposite Victoria Harbour, with the Immigration Department anticipating about six million tourists throughout the holidays.
According to the announcement made today by the board, the fireworks show will begin at 8 pm on May 1 at Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade Gardens and last about 10 minutes, with the fireworks being released from a barge 130 meters offshore.
The entire performance will mainly be in gold, displaying giant “HK” characters and happy smiley faces.
The fireworks will be combined with the “Symphony of Lights” show to provide a dual-vision effect.
The Immigration Department (ImmD) estimated that there will be around 5.9 million people entering and leaving Hong Kong throughout the long holidays, with May 1 expecting the maximum number of tourists at around one million.
The five-day-long Golden Week holiday, which will begin on Labour Day (May 1), has led to many stores and facilities gearing up in preparation for another economic boom.
The ImmD said today that during the whole week, there is an expectation that about 200,000 people will leave and enter Hong Kong through the Lo Wu Port, followed by the Lok Ma Chau Spur Line Control Point and Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Control Point, which are expected to see 170,000 travelers each.
Regarding tourists from the mainland, the immigration department expects there to be over 800,000 of them coming to Hong Kong, with the most expected to be taking the Express Rail Link West Kowloon Control Point.
In order to accommodate the tourists and make it easier for them when they travel to Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Tourism Board has launched a one-stop website to connect the highlights of the long holiday.
Information such as benefits, transportation arrangements, and opening hours of attractions are available at a single site.
