ASTRI at InnoEX and DES 2024: Where cutting-edge technology meets in-depth dialogue on smart city

InnoEX, hosted by the Hong Kong SAR Government and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, is at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from April 13 to 16. This event has brought together tech experts, entrepreneurs, and investors for groundbreaking dialogues, collaborations, and the exploration of future opportunities.

“At ASTRI, our mission is to bridge the gap between innovation and practical implementation. We strive to craft solutions that drive our economy forward and build a smarter city to improve people’s lives,” said Dr. Denis Yip, Chief Executive Officer of ASTRI.

“To achieve this vision, we recognise the importance of close collaboration with different stakeholders in the technology ecosystem. Together, we can explore opportunities for technology commercialisation and propel Hong Kong’s economic growth,” he added, emphasising that ASTRI aims to bring tangible benefits to society at large by constructing a brighter, cleaner, and smarter future city.

C-V2X, Digital Twin and AIGC in Focus

ASTRI’s exhibit stands as a testament to the envisioned smart city of the future. It spotlights pioneering technologies in Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X) and autonomous driving technologies through immersive experiences.

Professor Sun Dong, JP, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry of the Hong Kong SAR Government, Ir Tony Wong, Government Chief Information Officer, Ms Lillian Cheong, Under Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry and Ms Margaret Fong, Executive Director, of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council test-drove ASTRI’s virtual autonomous vehicle, exploring the advanced road safety and convenience facilitated by Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X) technology and autonomous driving.

ASTRI’s exhibition showcased other innovations such as digital twin robotic arms, MetaBrain – a digital platform designed for managing extreme weather conditions – and artificial intelligence generated content (AIGC), which together create a comprehensive narrative of the smart city, spanning new industrialisation, digital urban governance, and creative expression, setting the stage for future developments.

Roadmap to Smart Mobility and a Sustainable Future

Concurrently, the Digital Economy Summit 2024 (DES), was staging from April 12 to13 at the HKCEC. ASTRI has co-hosted the “Energy, Environment & Mobility Forum” and the “Smart Finance Forum” during the DES, drawing some 500 influential figures from the global I&T community, including pioneering entrepreneurs, thought leaders, and investors.

The forum commenced with greetings from Dr Denis Yip, followed by an opening address from Ms. Diane Wong, Under Secretary for Environment and Ecology of the HKSAR Government.

Keynote addresses by Ms. Suzanne Murtha, AECOM’s VP of Advanced Mobility, Payments Systems, and Automation, alongside Dr. Ming Li, NVIDIA’s Development Relationship Director, provided insights into two crucial topics respectively, “eVTOL – Flying Vehicles Shaping the Future of Advanced Air Mobility” and “NVIDIA Grace Empowering New Energy Growth”.

In-depth dialogues were spearheaded by Mr. Kenny Chan, ASTRI’s Chief Director of Innovative Mind, Mr. Dongzhe Su, ASTRI’s Director of Smart Mobility, and Mr. Simon Lee, ASTRI’s Senior Director of FinTech, Prop Tech & Art-Tech. Engaging with industry forerunners, they delved into the latest progress in electric vehicles, autonomous driving, smart transportation systems, and sustainable infrastructure. Together, they outlined a future blueprint for smart mobility and sustainable development.
