Dubai prince postpones opening of US$500m family office in HK to May

A Dubai prince has postponed the opening of his US$500 million family office in Hong Kong to the end of May, saying the delayed opening “is just the start of the global public service”.

In a statement released on Friday, the private office of Sheikh Ali Rashed Ali Saeed Al Maktoum expressed deep regrets that the opening had to be postponed due to some urgent matter in Dubai that needed the prince’s attention.

“However, it was decided that the opening will commence by the end of the month of May 2024,” it said.

“Sheikh Ali Al Maktoum believes that the opening of his family office in Hong Kong is just the start of his global public service.

“He expresses sincere gratitude to the Hong Kong government, including but not limited to the Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau and InvestHK for their assistance in establishing his family office in Hong Kong.”

The private office also noted that the 28-year-old prince was recently appointed as Honorary Professor in Sustainability Leadership by the Hang Seng University of Hong Kong, saying he actively engages in international organizations to tackle global challenges like poverty.

The 28-year-old is reportedly the nephew of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum – Dubai’s ruler and prime minister of the UAE.

The opening was originally scheduled on Thursday but was pulled at the eleventh hour.
